HIBAPRESS – Khalil Fazzazi
As part of the efforts to bring health services closer to the rural population, the territorial collectivity of Sidi Ahmed Laaroussi in the province of Smara witnessed, on Friday, October 23, 2026, an on-site visit to the rural health center. The visit was chaired by the Provincial Governor, Dr. Ibrahim Boutoumilaat, accompanied by an official delegation including a number of officials, elected representatives, and local figures, coinciding with the celebrations commemorating the first anniversary of the Unity Day.
This visit provided an opportunity to review the health services provided to the residents of the collectivity during 2026, and to assess the various medical and preventive interventions carried out, including mobile medical campaigns, general medical consultations, vaccination programs, maternal and child health monitoring, as well as awareness initiatives aimed at enhancing health awareness among citizens.
In a prominent part of this visit, the Provincial Governor and his accompanying delegation inspected the health tent dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of exclusive breastfeeding, organized as part of the national campaign launched by the Ministry of Health and Social Protection from October 20 to November 20, 2026.
Specialized health teams supervised this initiative, providing explanations and guidance to mothers and pregnant women about the health and nutritional benefits of exclusive breastfeeding during the first six months of an infant's life, its role in boosting immunity, ensuring proper child development, and strengthening the emotional bond between mother and child.
This segment was also marked by the organization of general medical consultations for the residents of the collectivity, with the distribution of medications to patients. This initiative combines health education with direct medical intervention, aiming to address some of the health needs of the local population.
The importance of this initiative is highlighted in light of the need to continue efforts to improve the access of rural populations, especially women and children, to essential health services, by intensifying preventive and awareness programs and providing medical services close to citizens.
These activities also reflect the importance of coordination between provincial authorities, health services, and medical and nursing staff, which contributes to consolidating a culture of prevention and enhancing awareness of the importance of healthcare, especially concerning maternal and child health.
The support of the Provincial Governor of Smara, Dr. Ibrahim Boutoumilaat, for this initiative falls within the scope of field activities accompanying the celebration of the first anniversary of Unity Day, which seeks to link the symbolism of the national occasion with social and health initiatives that respond to the needs of citizens.
This health stop in the collectivity of Sidi Ahmed Laaroussi emphasizes the importance of leveraging national occasions to highlight public services and social initiatives, and to strengthen efforts to improve the quality of services and bring them closer to the population, especially in rural areas.
Through awareness about the importance of breastfeeding, providing medical consultations, and distributing medications, this initiative stands out as a step to support maternal and child health and promote health prevention, making human health a fundamental element in the path of local development in the province of Smara.
