Information circulated by informed sources indicates that the Sidi Yusef neighborhood in Agadir has registered one of the first foci of diphtheria infection in the Souss-Massa region, within a shack inhabited by a homeless woman with her six children.
According to the same data, two children from the family died after contracting the disease, before other cases were recorded in areas of the Chichaoua province, then in the city of El Kelaâ, belonging to the province of Inezgane Ait Melloul.
According to the same sources, the shack associated with this outbreak underwent sterilization and disinfection by a specialized team, as part of measures aimed at limiting the possibility of contagion.
The data indicates that living conditions inside the place were difficult, with the accumulation of waste around it and its lack of basic hygiene conditions, which necessitated field health and preventive intervention.
These developments come at a time when health services in the Souss-Massa region have raised the level of vigilance, with the activation of monitoring procedures and tracking of suspected cases, in addition to vaccination, catch-up, and awareness-raising measures about the symptoms, risks, and ways to deal with the disease. Data related to the source and transmission of infection remains subject to epidemiological verification by the competent authorities.
