HIBAPRESS – Abdel Latif Barka
The construction works for the Dakhla Atlantic Port are continuing at an advanced pace, with the project's progress reaching approximately 65 percent, according to updated data. It is expected that all its components will be completed by the end of 2028, and it will be operational during 2029.
This project is considered one of the major strategic initiatives that the Kingdom is banking on to strengthen maritime and logistical infrastructure in the southern regions. Its various stages involve the mobilization of human resources and technical means, with over 1800 workers participating in its completion, operating on a 24-hour schedule to adhere to the set timeline.
The project is not limited to the construction of port facilities; it also includes the creation of an industrial and logistical zone spanning over 1650 hectares. This zone is expected to attract various industrial and service investments and activities, contributing to job creation and the revitalization of the local and regional economy.
Once operational, the port is anticipated to serve as a strategic platform to enhance trade exchanges between Morocco and West African countries and the Sahel region, and to strengthen maritime and logistical connections with international markets, thereby supporting Dakhla's position as a promising economic hub and the Kingdom's gateway to the African hinterland.
