Heba Press – Dakhla
The final works on the highway project linking Tiznit to Dakhla are continuing so that it will be fully operational by next December.
This project is part of the new development model for the southern provinces, launched by King Mohammed VI, for a total cost exceeding 9 billion dirhams.
The project is expected to help encourage public and private investments, strengthen the role of national companies, increase employment opportunities, in addition to improving road safety and reducing travel time and costs.
The project includes three main axes: the first links Tiznit and Guelmim over a length of 114 km, the second between Guelmim and Laâyoune over a length of 436 km, and the third between Laâyoune and Dakhla over a length of 500 km, with construction of the Sakia El Hamra bridge within the Laâyoune ring road.
The central director of the project revealed in a press statement that the 1,055-kilometer highway is nearing completion and that only minor works remain on the Tiznit-Guelmim axis, stressing that the road will be fully open to traffic next December.
This major project helped provide 2.5 million workdays during the construction phases, and 30,000 direct and 150,000 indirect workdays per year after its completion, as it will connect northern Morocco to the south and improve communication with Africa.
The director added that work was completed on more than 960 kilometers of the highway, which became ready for use after equipping it with signs, traffic lights and safety equipment.
He highlighted that important additions have been made to the project, including the construction of a 1,725 meter long bridge over the Saguia El Hamra valley, which will be the longest at the national level, in addition to the construction of large orbits in different cities. . With these improvements, the highway now includes 15 major technical facilities, bridges and lanes in all cities, bringing it into line with international standards.
