The intervention of the provincial committee affiliated with the Agadir prefecture prevented the resale of large quantities of perishable foodstuffs, following the breakdown of freezers and refrigerators at a major commercial space in the Adrar and Tikouine neighborhood, near the Marrakech road, for over ten hours, according to data provided by the Consumers Protection Association of Greater Agadir.
The association stated that the incident necessitated urgent intervention from the provincial authorities, with the participation of local services, representatives of the health sector, and the National Office for Food Safety (ONSSA), to monitor the situation and take the necessary measures to protect consumers.
The materials concerned, according to the available data, included animal products and their derivatives, such as milk, cheeses, meats, and various types of processed meats, which are materials that require strict and continuous adherence to cooling and freezing conditions to maintain their safety.
The association added that the intervention resulted in the seizure of the concerned materials and their supervised destruction until late on Friday evening, to prevent the possibility of them being re-offered for sale or consumed outside the established health procedures.
In this context, the association praised the intervention of the Governor of the Souss-Massa region, Said Amzazi, and the head of the economic department at the prefecture and his deputy, considering that the swift action of the concerned services contributed to protecting the health of consumers.
On the other hand, the association raised the issue of whether the commercial space in question has prevention systems and precautionary measures capable of dealing with sudden breakdowns that may affect cooling equipment, calling for enhanced monitoring and ensuring adherence to health safety conditions, so as to prevent the recurrence of such incidents and preserve the right of the Moroccan consumer to obtain safe food products.
