Cosumar Group has announced the launch of the 2026/2027 agricultural season with an agricultural program encompassing 60,000 hectares for sugar beet and 3,000 hectares for new sugarcane planting operations, across the five regions: Doukkala, Tadla, Moulouya, Gharb, and Loukkous.
Sugarcane planting operations began on August 20, 2026, followed by sugar beet sowing on September 15, 2026.
The 2026/2027 agricultural season mobilizes significant areas distributed across various sugar-producing regions in the Kingdom, with 60,000 hectares allocated for sugar beet cultivation, distributed as follows: Doukkala (18,500 hectares), Tadla (15,500 hectares), Gharb (15,000 hectares), Loukkous (6,000 hectares), and Moulouya (5,000 hectares).
Concurrently, 3,000 hectares are programmed for new sugarcane planting in the Gharb (2,000 hectares) and Loukkous (1,000 hectares) regions.
These vast areas reflect the dynamism of the national sugar sector and its territorial rootedness. The exploitation of these lands is expected to generate economic returns exceeding 3 million dirhams for the concerned regions, contributing tangibly to the enhancement of agricultural development, value creation, and an increase in the income of partner farmers.
Within the framework of the aggregation model adopted by Cosumar Group, contracts are concluded with farmer partners, and they are supported throughout all stages of the agricultural cycle, from the supply of inputs to the delivery of the harvest to the factories.
To ensure the success of this season, the Group has secured all agricultural inputs (seeds, fertilizers, and plant protection products) and has financed them in advance with an amount of nearly 800 million dirhams.
On the ground, farmers benefit from close supervision by over 120 agricultural advisors who assist them in all technical aspects, particularly planting, irrigation, weed control, and plant health treatments.
This support mechanism relies on providing farmers with the latest technological tools, such as drones used for treating weeds, diseases, and pests, alongside the digital platform "ATTAISSIR," smart irrigation techniques, and optimized fertilization. Mechanization has also been generalized to cover all stages, from planting to harvesting. This trend was further strengthened during the current season with an investment of 120 million dirhams dedicated to renewing the fleet of agricultural machinery for sugar crops.
In parallel, a package of investments amounting to 270 million dirhams has been allocated for technological modernization and upgrading the capabilities of the industrial infrastructure, to ensure the reception of harvests under the best possible conditions.
It is worth noting that during the 2025/2026 agricultural season, Cosumar Group achieved a national production of 240,000 tons of white sugar extracted from local sugar crops (beet and cane), despite heavy rainfall in the Gharb and Loukkous regions.
The average yield stood at 55 tons per hectare for sugar beet and 72 tons per hectare for sugarcane.
During the same season, partner farmers benefited from financial support from the state amounting to 70 dirhams per ton of sugarcane and 80 dirhams per ton of beet.
Furthermore, fertilizers distributed to farmers in the sugar sector were subsidized, and farmers affected in the Gharb and Loukkous regions were exempted from their debts for the past season. These two significant measures were jointly financed by Cosumar Group and the state. The total financial envelope for all these measures reached 425 million dirhams.
Cosumar Group plays a pivotal strategic role in the national economy through the production of sugar from national sugar crops (beet and cane) and the refining of imported raw sugar.
Sugar factories also produce animal feed and molasses, which is the essential input for producing baker's yeast. Thus, the sugar sector strongly contributes to stimulating economic activity in rural areas, securing the country's sugar needs, and supporting and strengthening the Kingdom's food sovereignty.
