In the framework of security efforts aimed at combating illegal activities related to the production and distribution of traditional alcoholic beverages, Royal Gendarmerie elements in the Ouled Teima commune, on the outskirts of Fez city, managed yesterday, Tuesday, October 13, 2026, to dismantle a secret unit specializing in the preparation and distillation of "Eau de Vie" (local spirit). This occurred during a security operation that targeted the Douar Ouled Bouabid.
According to available information, the operation resulted in the seizure of a significant quantity of the spirit ready for distribution, estimated at about 840 liters, alongside equipment and supplies used in fermentation and distillation processes, revealing the scale of the infrastructure employed in this illegal activity.
The seized items included 26 large barrels, 13 gas cylinders, as well as various containers and equipment dedicated to manufacturing processes, and significant quantities of sugar and yeast used in the preparation of this type of beverage.
Arrest of a Nationally Wanted Person
The results of the security intervention were not limited to the seizure of the spirit and the equipment used in its production. It also led to the arrest of a person suspected of being the main manager of this activity, who is subject to national arrest warrants, according to the available data.
The suspect has been placed under police custody, under the instructions of the competent public prosecution, as part of the judicial investigation aimed at determining the circumstances and details of the case, uncovering potential extensions of this activity, and identifying anyone who may be linked to the facts under investigation.
Security Movement to Confront Secret Manufacturing
This operation falls within the context of security interventions aimed at confronting illegal manufacturing and distribution activities of traditional alcoholic beverages, which occur outside the established legal controls, and the associated health and security risks.
The ongoing investigations, under the supervision of the competent public prosecution, are expected to clarify the various aspects of the case, pending the results of the investigation and subsequent judicial procedures, while respecting the presumption of innocence until responsibility is proven in accordance with the law.
