HIBAPRESS – Kenitra
"Gotion Power Morocco," a subsidiary of the Chinese group "Gotion High-Tech," is preparing to begin the operation and testing of its massive electric car battery production plant, located at the "Atlantic Free Zone" industrial platform in Kenitra, starting October 20th, after completing the infrastructure and engineering construction for the project.
Investments totaling approximately $1.3 billion have been allocated for the first phase of the project, with a targeted production capacity of 20 GWh per year. Initial tests will focus on verifying the readiness of production lines and the efficiency of equipment, in preparation for a gradual increase in manufacturing pace.
The plant will specialize in producing lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries, intended for electric cars and energy storage systems, aiming to meet the needs of the Moroccan and African markets, as well as exports to Europe, the Middle East, and the United States.
This development coincides with the strengthening of cooperation between "Gotion" and the German group "Volkswagen" through its battery division "PowerCo," as part of an agreement to establish joint industrial units in Morocco, Spain, and Slovakia. The project in Kenitra includes the production of cathode material, with shares of 51 percent for "Gotion" and 49 percent for the German partner.
