HIBAPRESS-RABAT

Several summers were recorded during the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, including the epic Morocco-Argentina match which will remain etched in the annals of the Olympic Games.

It should therefore be noted that several incidents marred the first match of the men’s Olympic football tournament between Argentina and Morocco, with a very confused end to the match, which saw Morocco win against Argentina after more than two hours of stoppage time and the use of VAR (2-1).

Both teams left the field, but the final whistle did not blow. More than two hours after the match ended, the official Olympic website indicated that the match was still suspended. The referees were checking for a possible offside on Argentina’s second goal as they sent the players to the locker rooms.

After nearly two hours of interruption, the players of both teams returned to the pitch and the refereeing body was able to analyze the disputed situation. The Argentinian goal was disallowed for offside and the match resumed for a few minutes in a stadium emptied of its supporters. It was finally Morocco who won against Argentina (2-1) after having resisted Julian Alvarez’s teammates for a long time in the second half and in an additional time that lasted well over 15 minutes.
