HIBAPRESS – Tangier
The management of the local prison in Asilah confirmed that the health condition of the detainee Mounir Lemouri, the Mayor of Tangier, is normal, denying his transfer to any public or private hospital institution, and considering that what has been circulated in this regard has no basis in truth.
The administration of the institution clarified, in an explanatory statement, that the person concerned has never complained of any illness since his imprisonment, pointing out that his only departure from the institution was to attend a court session, in response to reports that spoke of his two suicide attempts inside his cell.
This clarification comes amidst ongoing investigations related to suspicions of manipulating the results of the recent legislative elections, which took place on September 23, where the investigating judge at the Tangier Court of Appeal decided to postpone the detailed hearing of the suspended mayor until November 3, based on his defense's request, while refusing his temporary release.
The case dates back to the opening of an investigation following the apprehension of individuals in possession of bags containing electoral papers, while investigation data indicates suspicions of manipulating ballot papers inside a hotel in Tangier, based on surveillance camera recordings and analysis of telephone communications between the suspects.
