HIBAPRESS – Salwa Al-Rihani
The occupation of public space has resurfaced in several streets of Houmet Shok in Tangier, despite campaigns carried out by the city authorities, according to a citizen. He pointed out the spread of vendors spreading their goods on the ground in vital areas, turning some streets into what resembles spontaneous markets.
The complainant explained that these practices cause obstruction to traffic flow, narrow the paths for road users and pedestrians, distort the general scene, and make passage difficult at some points that witness high citizen turnout. The speaker indicated that the vicinity of Ibn Battuta building in Houmet Shok is among the places where this phenomenon appears, in light of the return of chaos after the authorities' campaigns. He called for intensified monitoring and ensuring the continuity of interventions, thereby limiting the occupation of public space and preserving the fluidity of traffic and citizens' right to use public spaces.
