Monkeypox: What should I do if I get sick?
HIBAPRESS-RABAT
As a general rule, people with confirmed monkeypox infection are instructed to self-isolate. Please follow the instructions of the health department.
During your home isolation, you must take the following measures in particular:
-Avoid any type of close contact, especially sexual intercourse with other people, until the rash has subsided and the last scab has fallen off. This can last up to four weeks.
-People with risk factors are particularly advised not to share the same household as you if possible. This includes people with compromised immune systems, pregnant women, children under 12 years old and the elderly.
-If you live with other people, try to stay in a separate room, ideally with access to a separate bathroom, as much as possible while the rash persists.
-As far as possible, do not share sheets, towels and other objects, such as dishes, with other people. Do not shake sheets to avoid releasing virus particles into the air. Wash your laundry at at least 60 °C and with a strong detergent.
-Make sure to maintain good hand hygiene. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water.
-Clean surfaces that you touch frequently, such as a bedside table, smartphone or tablet, thoroughly and at least once a day.
-Clean the surface of the bathtub and toilet after each use.
-Avoid direct contact with pets to prevent transmission from humans to animals.
-If your health condition deteriorates, immediately notify your doctor so that treatment can be put in place if necessary. The drug Tecovirimat is authorized for the targeted treatment of monkeypox.
