Surprising and decisive decision of the FRMF Steering Committee: approval of the proposal to play the round-trip play-offs for maintenance or promotion to Botola Pro 1


The Steering Committee of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) met on Thursday March 21, 2024 at the headquarters of the Federation under the chairmanship of Mr. Fouzi LEKJAA.

At the start of the meeting, Mr. Fouzi Lekjaa wished Happy Ramadan to the members present while congratulating the National Women's Under-20 Team for its qualification for the World Cup which will be held in Colombia.

Then, Mr. Fouzi Lekjaa informed the members of the Steering Committee on the progress of the file for organizing the 2030 World Cup, the cities and stadiums proposed to host the matches as well as the means deployed in this project. The President of the FRMF, Mr. Fouzi Lekjaa then presented the main football events that our country will host soon, and in the years to come, in particular:

– The African Futsal Cup of Nations in Rabat

– The 2025 African Cup of Nations

– The Under-17 Women’s World Cup for the years 2025, 2026, 2027, 2028 and 2029.

Then, the items on the agenda were discussed:

– The proposed modifications presented by the National Professional Football League (LNFP), in particular:

– The removal of the appeal concerning financial aspects, with direct recourse to the Chamber of Arbitration for Sport “CAS” or to the Court of Arbitration for Sport “CAS”.

– Validation of the modification concerning the host teams of the matches of the 32nd finals of the Throne Cup, with the obligation to have lighting at pitch level.

– Validation of the modification concerning the participation of clubs in Throne Cup matches from the round of 16, with the obligation for the host teams to have a natural grass pitch, lighting and VAR technology.

– The limitation of a maximum of 20 people to attend matches of teams having received a sanction of suspension from the Disciplinary Commission or having been the subject of local regulatory decisions.

– Validation of the update of the Specifications relating to the participation of teams in the first and second divisions of the Professional League (infrastructure, human and financial resources).

– Modification of the competition system for youth categories.

– Approval of the proposal to play the round-trip play-offs for the maintenance or promotion to the first professional division, where the teams ranked 13th and 14th in the first division will face those ranked 4th and 3rd in the second national division.

– The training agreement:

– Adoption of the model training agreement for young players (aged 12 to 18), which will be available to clubs and will guarantee all legal rights for both players and clubs.

– Agreement on the creation of a joint committee comprising the presidents of the regional Leagues, the National League, the National Refereeing Directorate, the National Technical Directorate and the Relations Commission with the national league, in order to coordinate and unify the working mechanisms with a view to founding strong Leagues.
