Heavy thunderstorms were recorded in the area of influence of the Ker-Ziz-Griss Water Basin Agency during the period between yesterday and today, August 23 and 24, 2024, amounting to 43 mm in the Alia of the Todghi Basin in the Province of Tinghir and 35 mm in the Alia of the Gris Basin in the Province of Errachidia.
Thanks to these rainfalls, significant water imports amounting to 8 million cubic meters were recorded at the Todghi, Al-Hassan Al-Dakhli, Qaddusa and Timqit dams.
But on the other hand, the flood waters of Wadi Gharis and the lower part of the Wadi Todghi Dam, which exceeded 25 million cubic meters, were not collected due to the lack of a dam on these waters.
In this context, the collective activist of the Errachidia Stadium area, Lahcen Ouderwish, called for the need to build underground dams on the hills to collect the waters of these floods and valleys in order to strengthen the water bed and ensure integrated water management, in order to face the difficulties related to water stress that the region has been experiencing for years. It is worth noting that the construction of hill dams and sustainable and ecological environmental infrastructures will contribute to grafting the water bed of these areas due to its positive, sustainable and effective impact, and to reviving oases and agriculture, thanks to the availability of water, as it is possible to develop agriculture in arid areas and revitalize oases and arid agricultural lands.
Hill dam construction is an effective solution to control and better use water, and it can have positive effects in providing drinking water and irrigation by collecting rainwater and flood water, as hill dams can be used to provide drinking and irrigation water to local communities and agricultural lands.
