The Argentine giants will participate in the inaugural 32-team tournament, which will be held in the United States in 2025.

Boca Juniors have become the 30th team to qualify for the FIFA Club World Cup 2025™ and the second Argentinian team to secure a spot at the tournament in the United States next year.

Diego Martínez’s team is now guaranteed to participate in the world tournament thanks to its ranking, following the elimination of its Argentinian counterparts San Lorenzo and Talleres, as well as Nacional (Uruguay) in the round of 16 of the CONMEBOL Libertadores 2024.

Boca, who are not participating in the continental competition this season, will be present in the United States next summer thanks to their results in the Libertadores in the last three seasons. They reached the final in 2023 and the round of 16 in the previous two campaigns.

The new FIFA Club World Cup, which will feature 32 teams and take place in the United States in June and July 2025, will feature clubs from each of the six confederations competing for the title of world champion.

Six places are reserved for South American teams. The winners of the CONMEBOL Libertadores of the last three seasons – Brazil’s Palmeiras, Flamengo and Fluminense – have already punched their tickets.

They will be joined by this year’s Libertadores winners, as well as the top two teams in the standings, who are now guaranteed to be Boca and arch-rivals River Plate.

If Flamengo, Fluminense or River Plate win the trophy this season, an additional place will open for a non-Brazilian or Argentine team.

Indeed, if a club wins two or more editions of the confederation’s main club competition during the period 2021-2024, the ranking route is used to allow other clubs to access the competition.

A cap of two clubs per country is applied to the access list, with an exception in cases where more than two clubs from the same country win the confederation’s top club competition during the four-year period.

The 32nd and final spot in the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 will be occupied by a team from the host country. Further details will be announced at a later date.
