Floods in Tinghir. An association demands a census of the damage caused to farmers and the construction of dams
Heba Press – Tinghir
The Tersal Association for Family, Solidarity and Sustainable Development – Oskis, sounded the alarm following the storms that hit the region on Saturday, August 25, and which recorded an unprecedented flooding load in Oued Akanousikis, commune of Amsmarir, province of Tinghir.
The association stated that, based on the need to find a solution to the silting of the Akanousikis Dam, which is a clear and serious request of the Tersal Association since its establishment seven years ago, and given the significant and unprecedented losses suffered by agricultural products and cultivated areas that have been exposed as a result of the floods. Because it has already warned on various occasions about the dangers of climate change and the consequences of the silting of the Akanousikis Dam, whether through previous statements as well as through public and private media and correspondence addressed to the various departments concerned.
Following the above, the association expressed its appreciation for the efforts and efforts of the public authorities to manage the difficult period that the inhabitants experienced on the night of the flood and to open the roads damaged by the floods and the conditions. With its explicit call to the government to take stock of the damage caused to the farmers of the different affected groups in the region, especially in the mountainous areas that suffered unprecedented damage (Ossikis, Mesmerir, Amokar-Tidirit, and Ait Sedrat El Jebel …) and the need for the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development, Water and Forests to visit the region.
The association also called on the relevant authorities to send their committees to determine the extent of agricultural destruction that has occurred in the region and to accelerate support for the rehabilitation of cultivated areas and to provide financial and technical compensation to those affected within the framework of the Flood Prevention Fund and the Green Generation Strategy 2020-2030.
The association also denounced the poor performance of the Amsmarbar Collective Council, which did not bother, like other neighboring groups, to address the institutions supporting the region’s flood protection programs, which have benefited the region’s urban and village communities over the past two years.
In the same vein, the association expressed its astonishment at the absence of dam programming in the high valleys of the Amsamarir communities (Ossikis – Erges – Anmeter – Temsint – Tidrit…) within the framework of the National Water Program, for which, under the royal directives, a budget estimated at more than 150 billion dirhams was allocated after its revision in 2023.
The Assembly stressed the link between responsibility and accountability in the management of local affairs and the need to program the various institutions of governance and evaluate the performance of public institutions (the General Inspectorate of Public Administrations, the General Inspectorate of Finance and the Higher Council of Accounts). for his visit to the community of Amsamir as part of achieving spatial justice in terms of interventions to control and protect public funds in accordance with the spirit of the Constitution of the Kingdom and according to the high royal directives of His Majesty King Mohammed VI. God grant him victory.
In conclusion, she called on the various relevant departments to program projects to adapt and mitigate the effects of climate change and to accelerate the search for a mechanical solution for Oued Ousikis to ensure the continuation of agricultural activity and limit the climate migration that is increasing in this agricultural region, whose high-quality products reach international markets. It is surprising to note the absence of a role for the official media in covering the losses caused by the floods in the community of Mesmerar.
