Update the reference basket and the weighting coefficients of the Consumer Price Index (CPI)

Meeting the needs of national accounting for data necessary for the development of national accounts

Evaluate policies and programs to combat poverty, vulnerability and the distribution of living standards

Update data for updating coefficients of variables used in targeting for the social directory

Provide the data needed for analysis and modeling of living conditions (studies on social stratification, poverty dynamics, development of impact simulation models, updating of poverty maps, etc.)

Make data on the living conditions of the population available to the public to promote economic and social research.

Methodology

A sample of households, representing the various social classes and regions of the country, is chosen, according to a three-stage stratified sampling plan which guarantees representativeness of the population and precision of the estimates obtained.

To take into account seasonal fluctuations in the structure of consumer spending and household food consumption, the collection is spread over an entire year and across the entire national territory.
