In figures…this is the amount that Moroccans spent on their trips outside the country this year

European destinations have become attractive for Moroccans looking for a summer vacation, especially for those with a Schengen visa, as the phenomenon of summer travel to Europe has become common, even among middle-class and ordinary-income families.
In this regard, the Foreign Exchange Office published data relating to the value of Moroccans’ spending during their trips abroad, a figure which has increased during the current year compared to the same period last year.
Moroccan spending on foreign travel jumped 16.9% in the first seven months of this year, reaching 16.92 billion dirhams, compared to 14.48 billion dirhams in the same period last year.
According to the monthly report of the Foreign Exchange Office on exchange rate indicators, Moroccans’ spending on traveling abroad during the month of July recorded a sharp increase compared to the same month last year. It increased by 32.1%, from 1.92 billion dirhams to 2.54 billion dirhams.
Spending on foreign travel also recorded a sharp increase in the first seven months of this year, compared to what it reached in the same period of 2020, 2021 and 2022, when it was limited to 6.1, 5.07 and 9.68 billion dirhams respectively.
Travel expenses in hard currency include money that Moroccans spend on tourism, Hajj, Umrah, studies, training, missions and medical care outside the Kingdom, specifying that tourist allowances have been increased to 100,000 dirhams per year per person.
