Morocco-China: The Chinese economic offensive in Africa
HIBAPRESS-RABAT
The Chinese economic offensive in Africa began in the 2000s, when China developed a very aggressive strategy of taking interests and markets in the key field of energy, but also in minerals, construction and public works (BTP) or the market for everyday consumer goods.
In less than fifteen years, China has risen to the rank of a leading “African power” covering a wide range of areas: economic, political, diplomatic and military.
During this period, China has become the second economic partner of the African continent (including North Africa). The trips of Chinese dignitaries to Africa have multiplied, accompanied by their share of development partnerships, signing of contracts, some of which have impressed by their scale and nature, at a time when, for their part, African leaders have taken up their habits in China, whether during individual trips or during major meetings organized by the China-Africa Cooperation Forum (FOCAC) which are held alternately in China or on the African continent.
