The Saudi government has issued a set of laws and regulations that regulate the marriage of Saudi citizens, whether men or women, of Arab nationality, “in the context of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s desire to regulate family relations and to conform to local customs and traditions.”

These laws include strict controls that require approval from Saudi authorities before entering into a marriage with a foreigner.

Saudi Arabia has identified a group of countries that prohibit marriage for its citizens inside or outside the Kingdom, whether the marriage is to a Saudi man or woman, with severe penalties imposed on those who violate these laws, according to the newspaper “Saudi Guide”.

The list includes countries from which Saudi Arabia prohibits the marriage of certain nationalities, most of which are non-Arab. These laws are in line with the latest government amendments in this regard, and the nationalities prohibited for Saudis are as follows:

Bangladesh: No Saudi citizen is allowed to marry a Bangladeshi national.

Pakistan: It is forbidden to marry Pakistanis, whether for a Saudi man or a Saudi woman.

Burma: Authorities prohibit marriage to people with Burmese nationality.

On the Arab side, Morocco has been identified as the only country to which additional conditions are imposed.

If a Saudi citizen, man or woman, wishes to marry a Moroccan man or woman, he or she must provide proof that this person is free from any criminal case.
