A joint security operation between the regional security services of the city of Safi and the National Division of the Judicial Police, allowed, yesterday evening, Saturday September 21, the abandonment of an international smuggling operation of a drug shipment weighing eight tons and 112 kilograms from Shera. via the seaport of the city of Safi.
This security operation made it possible to seize this drug shipment, consisting of 199 packages prepared for international trafficking by sea, packed on a numbered goods transport truck in Morocco, which was seized immediately after entering the Atlantic port of Safi.
The search procedures carried out in connection with this case also led to the arrest of 21 people aged between 24 and 48, suspected of being involved in the activity of the criminal network involved in the international trafficking of this drug shipment, in addition to the seizure of barrels containing 1,160 litres of petrol and a second small truck on site.
Investigations into this case lasted several weeks, as information was exploited indicating that a criminal network was planning to carry out a specific international drug trafficking operation, which required tracking and tracing seized drug shipments, before they were seized and the people involved in the shipment and smugglers were arrested.
The detainees were subjected to a judicial investigation conducted by the National Division of the Judicial Police under the supervision of the competent Public Ministry, in order to identify all local and international extensions of this criminal activity, as well as to arrest all those involved and accomplices of the members of this criminal network.
This security operation is part of the intensive efforts deployed by the interests of the General Directorate of National Security to combat international drug trafficking.
