On the occasion of its annual presidency of the G20, Brazil unveiled a world map including the full geographical map of the Kingdom of Morocco, including its southern provinces.
This planisphere, produced by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) and presented to President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, highlights the member countries of the G20, an economic forum bringing together 19 nations as well as the African Union and the European Union, of which Brazil holds the rotating presidency.
The map also highlights the countries where Brazil has diplomatic representations, illustrating the vast Brazilian presence throughout the world, particularly in Africa.
According to the IBGE, “the production of this planisphere is an opportunity for Brazil to position itself in a unique way on the international scene, in line with its presidency of the G20.”
Last June, during the official visit of the Brazilian Minister of Foreign Affairs to Morocco, the Federative Republic of Brazil welcomed the serious and credible efforts of the Kingdom to move forward towards a settlement of the dispute over the Moroccan Sahara, within the framework of the autonomy initiative presented by the Kingdom in 2007.
In a joint statement, Brazil reiterated its support for UN efforts to reach a political and mutually acceptable solution to the issue of the Moroccan Sahara, in accordance with the relevant UN resolutions.
