Barcelona reveal Ter Stegen’s injury type

Barcelona have released a medical report regarding their goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen, following the serious injury he suffered during the team’s match against Villarreal in the Spanish League.

Barcelona said in a statement: “Medical tests confirm that goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen has suffered a complete rupture of the patellar tendon in his right knee. He will undergo surgery today.”

The club have not revealed how long their goalkeeper will be out, but Spanish media have reported that he will be sidelined for between six and eight months and that his season could be over.

Ter Stegen injured his knee while attempting to receive a cross, requiring him to be transferred on a “stretcher” as he cried in intense pain, amid great concern from Germany coach Hansi Flick and the team’s players.
