A 74-year-old man was involved in a serious accident in Zayo town today after falling from an unfenced bridge in the new district. According to local sources, the victim was walking on the bridge when he lost his balance and fell into the valley due to the lack of iron barriers to protect pedestrians.
The fall left him with serious injuries to various parts of his body and he was immediately transferred to the nearby Zayo Hospital via a Civil Defense ambulance. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was transferred to the regional hospital, where he is in intensive care in the intensive care unit.
This incident is considered the third of its kind in a short period, since the Al-Nahda district saw a few weeks ago a young man in his forties fall from a similar bridge, causing paralysis of its members. A young child also fell from another arcade in the new neighborhood, causing broken bones.
The city’s citizens expressed their dissatisfaction, holding the Zayo group fully responsible for not having allocated a budget to establish protective barriers on the bridges, especially since the budgets are spent on other matters such as fuel and incidental costs, while the lives of citizens, especially children and students, remain at risk.
