Brazil’s Supreme Court has ordered the immediate unblocking of social network X’s bank accounts and assets, after the platform agreed to pay more than $5 million in fines for repeated violations of court decisions.
This decision, rendered by judge Alexandre de Moraes, paves the way for the reactivation of the social network, suspended since August 31 in Brazil due to a dispute lasting several months between the magistrate and the owner of X, the American billionaire Elon Musk.
In his judgment delivered on Tuesday, the judge asked the Central Bank to unfreeze the accounts and financial assets of X, in order to guarantee the payment of the fines, with funds from abroad.
The total amount of 28.6 million reals (approximately $5.2 million) corresponds to three cumulative fines: 18.3 million reals for not deleting certain profiles, 10 million for circumventing the blocking of platform activities , and 300,000 reals imposed on his legal representative.
The company’s finances were frozen in late August, shortly before the platform became inaccessible in Brazil, where it has around 22 million users, making the country its largest market in Latin America.
