FIFA Council makes important decisions regarding FIFA member associations and upcoming FIFA competitions
The FIFA Council met at FIFA Headquarters in Zurich on Thursday 3 October 2024 and adopted key decisions on various topics, including FIFA member associations and the upcoming men’s and women’s competitions.
Regarding the proposal submitted by the Palestinian Football Association regarding the Israeli Football Association during the 74th FIFA Congress, the FIFA Council adopted the following recommendations and conclusions obtained within the framework of the legal analysis independent commissioned by FIFA:
The FIFA Disciplinary Committee will be mandated to open an investigation into the alleged offense of discrimination raised by the Palestinian Football Association.
The FIFA Governance, Audit and Compliance Committee will be tasked with investigating – and subsequently advising the FIFA Council – the participation in Israeli competitions of Israeli football teams allegedly based on the territory of Palestine.
“The FIFA Council has been diligent in this very sensitive matter and, based on a thorough assessment, we have followed the advice of independent experts,” said FIFA President Gianni Infantino. “The current violence in the region confirms that above all else, and as the 74th FIFA Congress declared, we need peace. We remain extremely shocked by what is happening and our thoughts are with those who are suffering. We urge all parties to restore peace to the region with immediate effect.”
