Libya shocked Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune by refusing to form a new Maghreb entity without the presence of Morocco

Libya’s Presidential Council frustrated Tebboune’s hopes by rejecting his efforts to form a new political entity in the region to replace the Arab Maghreb Union.
The Libyan message came after the reception of the President of the Presidential Council, Mohamed Al-Manfi, on Thursday, by the interim manager of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Taher Al-Ba’our, who presented to him a comprehensive briefing on the latest political developments and briefed him on the results of his visit to several countries and his participation in some international meetings, as well as political developments, the role of the African Union and efforts to activate the role of the Arab Maghreb Union.

Libyan circles confirmed that the expression “activating the role of the Maghreb Union” reflected Libya’s attachment to the five-year Union, which includes Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco and Mauritania.

The Algerian president declared that he agreed with Libya, Tunisia and Mauritania to work together to create a common Maghreb entity, not directed against any country, stressing that the reason for this decision was absence of any common Maghreb action. This led to an agreement to organize North African meetings without excluding any party, with the door open to all, he said.
