Today, 1.2 billion young people aged 15 to 24 represent 16% of the world’s population. By 2030, the deadline set for the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the number of young people is expected to increase by 7%, reaching almost 1 .3 billion people.

As young people demand to benefit from more and more fair, equitable and progressive opportunities within their societies, it is more urgent than ever to address the multiple challenges they face, particularly in terms of access to education and in the areas of health, employment and gender equality.

Young people can be a positive force for development when they have the knowledge and opportunities they need to thrive. To do this, they must be able to acquire, in an equitable manner, education and skills essential to access the job market and contribute to society.

2025 will mark the 30th anniversary of the World Program of Action for Youth. Although it remains very relevant, its implementation lags behind the commitments made. This anniversary provides an ideal opportunity to recognize the achievements, as well as the key challenges that young people still face, while strengthening political commitment to policies and programs that support youth.
