The National Food Safety Office (ONSSA) of the Ministry of Agriculture has issued an official license for the importation of red meat.
According to an official document obtained by Heba Press, the importation of red and frozen meat has been authorized from some European and South American countries, taking into account halal slaughter and preservation standards.
The import process will include sheep and goat meat from European Union countries, Albania, Andorra, Argentina, Australia, Canada, Chile, United States, Great Britain, New Zealand, Russia, Serbia, Singapore, Switzerland and Uruguay.
As for beef, the office explained that the import will include the same countries mentioned previously, in addition to Brazil, Ukraine and Paraguay.
This decision comes in view of the high prices of red meat on the national market, with prices reaching 140 dirhams per kilo in certain areas, which prompted the government to take the decision to import slaughtered meat from from several countries.
