Paris Saint-Germain star Achraf Hakimi achieved an unprecedented feat in his career with the Moroccan national team, becoming the first defender in the history of the “Lions of the Atlas” to reach 10 international goals.
This new record reinforces Hakimi’s brilliant career with the national team, of which he is currently one of the most notable players.
Ahmed Fares is still the top scorer
Despite Hakimi’s genius, the legend of the 60s and 70s, Ahmed Fares, still retains the title of top scorer of the Moroccan national team throughout its history, with 36 goals.
The player of the current generation, Ayoub El Kaabi, is close to his number with 25 goals.
Fourth place in number of international participations
Thanks to his participation in 81 international matches, Hakimi rose to fourth place in the ranking of the most players in the Moroccan national team, ahead of a large number of players. Noureddine Naybet tops the list with 115 matches, followed by Ahmed Fares (94 matches) and Ghanem Sais (83 matches).
A busy journey from the start
Hakimi began his international career at the age of 17, when French coach Hervé Renard called him up to play a friendly match against Canada in 2016.
Since then, Hakimi has continued to shine with the national team, as he played a major role in Morocco reaching the semi-finals of the 2022 World Cup.
Olympic success
One of Hakimi’s most notable moments was his leadership of the Moroccan national team which won the bronze medal at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, making Morocco the first Arab and African country to achieve this feat.
Significant figures at 25 years old
Hakimi, aged 25, managed to score 10 goals and provide 11 assists in 81 international matches, becoming the youngest Moroccan player to reach these figures in the history of the Moroccan national team.
