The English Football Association announced in a statement today Wednesday the appointment of former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel as national team coach.
Tuchel will be the third foreigner to coach the England national team after Swede Sven-Goran Eriksson and Italian Fabio Capello. The press release explains that the Englishman Anthony Barry will assist him.
Mark Bullingham, CEO of the Federation, said: “We are pleased to appoint Thomas Tuchel, one of the best coaches in the world, and Anthony Barry, one of the best English coaches, to support him. »
Tuchel replaces England under-21 coach Lee Carsley, who took charge of the senior national team on an interim basis following the resignation of Gareth Southgate following the defeat to Spain in the 2024 European Championship final.
Tuchel will take office on January 1, ahead of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, which will take place in Canada, Mexico and America.
