‘Moroccan Outlaws’ set September 20 mourning day of raped, dead 14 years old Meriem
Feminist collective, Moroccan Outlaws designated September 20 as a mourning day in memory of Meriem, the 14 years old child from Boumia who lost her life following an unsafe abortion conducted after she was raped.
The NGO, with almost 50K followers on Instagram, started a mourning campaign and asked its followers to show their solidarity.
In an Instagram story, the NGO explained that this is an act of resistance.
“Meriem, 14 years old was raped and died on September 6 following an unsafe abortion, due to the unjust system of laws we all know and live under,” posted the organization.
They wanted to cherish her memory and show support to her close ones.
Hashtag Meriem is now being used by Moroccan internet users to express their solidarity.
“We will always remember you Meriem, and while keeping you in our thoughts, we hope, pray and fight for a better future for our Moroccan children,” says Moroccan Outlaws
The page normally uses red as a trademark, but now, they switched to green posts for more visibility.
The cause of death was a procedure carried out by a midwife working in the regional hospital of Mideltl, and a technician at Azrou Hospital, impersonating a nurse, according to witnesses.
It took place in the home of the young man who exploited the girl sexually which resulted in her pregnancy.
