Global external position: Net debt situation of MAD 791.6 billion in 2023

The overall external position, which reflects the asset situation of the Moroccan economy vis-à-vis the rest of the world, highlights a net debt situation of 791.6 billion dirhams (MMDH) in 2023, according to the Office des Changes .

This situation results from the increase in outstanding financial assets of 7 billion dirhams, greater than that of financial commitments (+1.3 billion dirhams), explains the Office in a press release on the results of foreign trade for the year 2023 .

According to the same source, the increase in the outstanding amount of financial assets is mainly due to the increase of MAD 4.2 billion in the outstanding amount of reserve assets.

In addition, the Office des Changes indicates that the slight increase in financial commitments is explained by the increase recorded in the level of outstanding direct investments (+2.9 billion dirhams) and that relating to the “other investments” component. » (+1.3 billion dirhams) mitigated, however, by the drop in the outstanding amount of portfolio investments (-2.9 billion dirhams).
