Russia’s permanent representative to the United Nations has rejected the amendments proposed by its Algerian ally concerning the Moroccan Sahara issue.
During the Sahara session, the representative of Russia publicly announced his country’s rejection of the amendments requested by Algeria concerning the tasks of MINURSO by adding a human rights monitoring clause.
The representative of Russia said: “Our abstention comes from our strong position.
The human rights component should not be added to MINURSO’s mission. This is the reason for our abstention in the vote on the two amendments. It should be noted that this is not consistent with the purpose of this mission. »
The response from the Russian delegate was a great shock for the representative of Algeria and the Palais Mouradia, which confirms the international isolation that Algeria is experiencing.
