the Green March: the inspiration of a king
HIBAPRESS-RABAT-CI
Let us recall that this idea of the Green March had been inspired by God to the late HM King Hassan II, who would say it later, in his work dedicated to the Green March: “It is with intense emotion that I remember that night on August 19, 1975, in Fez, where the idea of the Green March was inspired. The Fatiha, introductory surah of the Koran, which guided the steps of the prophet Sidna Mohammed, provided me with the code of conduct to thwart the maneuvers of Spain in the Sahara…”
Subsequently, the Moroccan historian Abdallah Laroui will talk about the Green March which takes the form of “an enthusiastic and serious procession, a ceremony that is at once sporting, patriotic and spiritual, a sort of possessive pilgrimage towards this ancient Moroccan land. It borrows from the Koranic surah El Fath, “Victory”, the very idea of the March, Green from the Color of the Standard of the Prophet, the Color of Islam. He compares this peaceful reconquest operation to the Prophet’s entry into Mecca.
The Messenger of Allah had previously secured the maximum sympathy, support and support from the tribes and communities. And after a year of peaceful and persevering efforts, of skillful diplomatic approaches, God crowned his action with success.
From a peaceful territorial claim, we move on to jihad against the Spaniards. The 350,000 marchers who advance brandishing the Koran and reciting the Fatiha are compared to the mujahideen who were responsible in the early days of Islam for propagating the word of the prophet:
In truth, everyone was armed: they brandished banners proclaiming Moroccan sovereignty, green flags, and the national flag, bearing the green star.
All also had the Koran and all considered these weapons to be more formidable than the most powerful and maneuverable of the armored divisions.
