The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has just published the list of referees for the 2024 Women’s Champions League, which will be held in Morocco from November 9 to 23. This edition marks a decisive milestone in the history of African football, since, for the first time, all officials, including video-assisted referees (VAR), are exclusively women.
In order to prepare selected referees for the demands of the competition, CAF has set up specific training programs focused on VAR, such as the VAR Academy. Referees will thus have the opportunity to benefit from in-depth training and perfect their skills under the supervision of experienced instructors, thus strengthening their technical and mental preparation throughout the competition.
The list of central referees and assistant referees represents the geographical diversity of Africa, with officials from more than 15 countries. This plurality is essential, because it makes it possible to strengthen the capacities of each region in the field of women’s arbitration.
