Heba Press – Errachidia
Thursday evening, November 14, police in the town of Goulmima, in Rachidia province, shot a motorist who refused to obey the order to stop at a security check set up by the authorities in the framework of the fight against drug trafficking.
The checkpoint, which was placed on the road leading to the Assol region towards Al-Rish, was based on information from the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance regarding a possible international drug trafficking operation.
According to informed sources, the driver attempted to quickly cross the barrier, prompting one of the police officers to use his functional weapon and fire a bullet which struck the driver.
Despite his injury, the driver drove the car a short distance before leaving the road and falling down a slope.
The driver’s companion, who was drunk, was arrested and an initial inspection of the car did not uncover any drugs or evidence of a smuggling operation.
The driver’s body was taken to the city hospital for a medical autopsy, while the regional division of the Fez judicial police continues its investigations under the supervision of the general prosecutor’s office to determine the circumstances and motives.
