Lafetet discusses cooperation on migration and terrorism with his French counterpart

The Minister of the Interior, Abdelouafi Laftit, received today, Monday in Rabat, the French Minister of the Interior and Overseas Territories, Gérald Darmanin, in the presence of several senior officials from the two countries.

In a press release from the Ministry of the Interior, it is indicated that the two ministers examined, during their bilateral talks, followed by an extended working meeting, issues of common interest and explored ways to strengthen cooperation in accordance with the ambitions and aspirations of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God glorify him, and of His Excellency the President of the French Republic, Mr. Emmanuel Macron, with a view to establishing an exceptional strategic partnership based on friendship and respect for common interests.

The same source added that the two ministers underlined, in this regard, the solid basis constituted by the components of security and migration in this deep and multidimensional bilateral relationship, which continues to strengthen thanks to dialogue open to all. levels, noting that these components are of vital importance to maintain a dynamic capable of overcoming different circumstances in a constructive manner.

After expressing their common vision of the regional and international scene, the two ministers affirmed their convergence of views on security issues and common challenges and agreed on strengthening channels for the exchange of experiences and information to better anticipation of multiple threats, particularly those linked to the criminal activities of terrorist groups and criminal networks, particularly in the Sahel and desert region.

In this context, Mr. Laftit discussed the appropriate and comprehensive security approach adopted by Morocco to address security challenges, in particular terrorist threats; a comprehensive strategy that combines field operations, exchange of intelligence information and preventive operations, in particular the fight against extremism, and reintegration aspects.

He also highlighted the global and humanitarian approach adopted by the Kingdom in the area of ​​migration governance, in application of royal directives. In this regard, the minister underlined the importance of the continued efforts made by Morocco and the positive role played by the Kingdom within the framework of the permanent contact group on migration, which constitutes a mechanism for dialogue and coordination on this issue. .

For his part, the French Minister of the Interior and Overseas Territories welcomed the Moroccan approach to security challenges and those linked to migration, stressing that the latter constitutes a factor of peace and regional stability, making the Kingdom an impenetrable fortress in the face of various threats and a reliable and credible partner on the international scene, particularly with the Southern Mediterranean countries.

The statement also indicated that Mr. Darmanin also expressed his thanks to the Moroccan security authorities for their operational and logistical support in the context of preparations for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
