Heba Press – Muhammad Zariyouh
The mystery still hovers over the question of the transport of the body of the deceased Ittihad Tangier player, Abdellatif Akhrif, found on one of the Algerian coasts of Oran after having drowned in the waters of the beach of M’diq il about five months ago.
The delay in handing over the body to his family in Morocco sparked a wave of anger on social media, with activists saying humanitarian issues should not be subject to political differences.
Although Algerian authorities have identified the body, expulsion procedures have not yet been completed, leading some to accuse Algerian authorities of mixing political and humanitarian issues, given ongoing tensions between the two countries over sensitive files, in particular that of territorial integrity files.
The family of the deceased is still living in mourning and waiting in the absence of any developments regarding the date of handing over the body washed up on the Algerian coast last July.
This delay has prompted many people to question the humanitarian role in light of tense political relations between Morocco and Algeria, amid calls to strengthen cooperation between the two countries on humanitarian issues, far from the political calculations.
