Eleven exceptional players hope to be crowned
Lionel Messi won the last two awards
Fans can now vote for their favorite candidate
Eleven exceptional candidates have been shortlisted for The Best – FIFA Player of the Year 2024 and fans can now vote for their favorite candidate.
The finalists were selected based on their performances between August 21, 2023 and August 10, 2024 inclusive. FIFA presents the main highlights of each player during this period.
The Best – FIFA Player 2024: Vote now! Jude Bellingham
Jude Bellingham had an exceptional debut season with Real Madrid, winning the La Liga-UEFA Champions League double. In 42 matches in all competitions, he scored 23 goals, including two decisive ones against FC Barcelona (1-2). The 21-year-old Englishman then helped his team reach the UEFA EURO 2024 final, his acrobatic return in the round of 16 to snatch the equalizer against Slovakia (2-1 ap) being one highlights of the tournament.
Dani Carvajal
Dani Carvajal has shown great consistency, both for club and national team, throughout the 2023/24 season. Everyone remembers the Champions League final and his precise header allowing Real Madrid to open the scoring, for a 2-0 final victory for the Merengues against Borussia Dortmund. The experienced right-back then played a fundamental role in Spain’s triumph at EURO 2024, starting five out of seven matches including the final against England (2-1).
Erling Haaland
With Manchester City or Norway, Erling Haaland continued to score at an insane rate. He led his club to a record fourth successive Premier League title, scoring 27 goals in 31 league matches and finishing as top scorer. The powerful Norwegian is also in good form on the international scene. At just 24 years old, he is already Norway’s all-time top scorer, with 38 goals in just 39 appearances for the first team.
Tony Kroos
Toni Kroos ended his brilliant career in royal fashion, winning three trophies with Real Madrid. The elegant midfielder, whose passing quality never faltered even in the twilight of his career, was a vital cog in the Madrid side that won the UEFA Champions League, the Spanish championship and the Spanish Super Cup. Unfortunately, he did not have the same influence with the German team, since Kroos and his partners left EURO 2024 in the quarter-finals, eliminated by Spain (2-1 ap), future winner of the ‘test.
Kylian Mbappé
Kylian Mbappé allowed Paris Saint-Germain to achieve the Cup-Championship double for his last season with the capital club. With 27 goals in 29 Ligue 1 matches in 2023/24, he won the top scorer title for the sixth year in a row. The French striker also scored eight goals during PSG’s Champions League campaign which was interrupted at the semi-final, making him the competition’s joint top scorer with Harry Kane. The man who helped France reach the last four of EURO 2024 joined Real Madrid in July.
Lionel Messi
Despite his 37 years, Lionel Messi continues to have a considerable influence on Inter Miami and the Argentine selection. His remarkable performances allowed his club to win the 2023 Leagues Cup and the 2024 Supporters’ Shield, a title awarded to the MLS team with the most points during the regular season. La Pulga also captained Argentina at the Copa América and finished the year as the top scorer in the 2026 FIFA World Cup™ qualifiers for the South America zone, with six goals. .
Rodri
Over the past 12 months, Rodri has been the cornerstone of the success of Manchester City and the Spanish team. The Spanish midfielder’s leadership, calm and technical finesse have illuminated City’s victorious Premier League campaign. He was also instrumental in winning the 2023 FIFA Club World Cup™, a competition in which he was named the adidas Golden Ball. At EURO 2024, he was voted Player of the Tournament in addition to being crowned with La Roja.
Federico Valverde
As is often the case, Federico Valverde was the handyman for Real Madrid during a season marked by a title in the league and the Champions League. A midfielder with great tactical intelligence, excellent passing skills and phenomenal stamina, he has played more minutes than any other member of the squad in 2023/24. Valverde also played a key role for Uruguay, who finished third in the 2024 Copa América.
Vinicius Jr
In 2023/24, Vinicius Jr had the most spectacular season of his career. The Brazilian wisp has been responsible for many of Real Madrid’s successes, scoring 24 goals in 39 appearances in all competitions. He notably scored a goal in the Champions League final against Borussia Dortmund (2-0) and scored a hat-trick against FC Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup final (4-1).
Florian Wirtz
Florian Wirtz shone during Bayer Leverkusen’s remarkable 2023/24 campaign, with whom he completed the Cup-Championship double and reached the UEFA Europa League final. Creative and efficient, the 21-year-old playing master has scored 18 goals and provided 20 assists in all competitions. He also established himself in the German national team and scored twice at EURO 2024.
Lamine Yamal
Lamine Yamal once again proved that he was the greatest talent of his generation. The striker, who celebrated his 17th birthday in July 2024, established himself as one of FC Barcelona’s most valuable players and splashed EURO 2024 with his genius. With four assists and a goal, he played a leading role in Spain’s conquest of the European champion title. His magnificent curling strike against France in the semi-final (2-1) was named the best goal of the tournament, and he himself was elected Young Player of the Competition.
