“It’s a great privilege and I’m happy to be here. It’s a club with a great heritage. I am entering a club with a great identity. I will do my best to make people happy and represent them in the best way possible,” Cardoso told reporters yesterday Tuesday.
He joins Sundowns with three of his assistants, Fabio Fernandes, Pedro Azevedo and João Araújo. Coaches Steve Komphela and Kennedy Mweene will remain as part of the club’s new technical team.
Cardoso, 52, has previously worked at Rio Ave (Portugal), Nantes (France), Celta Vigo (Spain) and AEK Athens (Greece).
He was most recently at the head of the Tunisian club Esperance, which he led to the final of the TotalEnergies Champions League in 2023-24, where he narrowly lost 1-0 on aggregate. against Al Ahly. Cardoso left Esperance in October.
Sundowns started the group stage of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League with two draws against Maniema Union (0-0, home) and AS FAR (1-1, away). Sundowns’ next match will take place on Sunday, when they host Raja Casablanca.
Cardoso will also prepare them for next year’s 2025 FIFA Club World Cup in the United States, where they have been drawn alongside Germany’s Borussia Dortmund, Brazil’s Fluminense and South Africa. Ulsan Koreans HD.
