The municipality of Tangier allocates nearly 13 million dirhams for the expansion of Ibn Batouta airport

The municipality of Tangier has allocated nearly 13 million dirhams (MDH) as a contribution to the development and expansion project of the Ibn Batouta international airport.

Under the multi-party agreement, adopted during the ordinary session of its council in May, the municipality of Tangier will take charge of the construction of the road infrastructure and multimodal connection necessary to connect the airport to the various centers of importance in Tangier. , indicates a press release from the elected body.

This project, planned over a period of 48 months, involves a total investment exceeding 2.28 billion dirhams (MMDH), and will be financed and carried out by various actors and institutional partners.

The project, which will be carried out over an area of ​​nearly 199 hectares, includes the construction of basic infrastructure such as an aircraft parking area and taxiways over an area of ​​approximately 160,000 m², as well as the extension and construction of an airport fence over a length of 6 km.

In addition, a boarding lounge is also planned, with an area of ​​almost 55,000 m², as well as a new control tower with associated equipment, in addition to the establishment of a new road leading to the airport and a parking lot that can accommodate up to 1,400 vehicles.

It should be noted that the Ibn Batouta airport development and expansion project aims to contribute to the tourist and economic development of the city of the Strait.

It also aspires to increase the airport’s handling capacity from 1.2 million to 4.4 million passengers per year, in order to meet the flow of travelers expected by 2050, in accordance with the standards established by the Association of international air transport, while guaranteeing compliance with current safety and security standards.
