The FIFA Council provided further information on the Women’s Club World Cup™, the 2025 Women’s Futsal World Cup™, the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup™, the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup™, 17™ and the FIFA™ Arab Cup.
During its meeting held ahead of the 74th FIFA Congress in Bangkok (Thailand), the FIFA Council took several key decisions relating, among other things, to the future of women’s football, notably adopting the international match calendar unanimously.
In December 2022, the FIFA Council decided to validate the strategic principle linked to the creation of a FIFA Women’s Club World Cup™. Today, after consultation with the confederations and other participating parties, it has been proposed that the first edition of this competition will be contested by 16 teams in January-February 2026. The competition will take place every four years. Further information in this regard will be communicated at a later date.
In order to continue to support the global development of women’s club football, and to respond to requests from confederations to provide sufficient playing opportunities each year, it has also been proposed that an additional women’s club competition be organized by the FIFA from 2027, in years without the Women’s Club World Cup.
Concerning the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027™, it was confirmed, in accordance with the voting procedure approved by the FIFA Council on March 14, 2024, that the joint candidacy of the German Football Association, the Belgian Football Association of Football and the Dutch Football Federation and that of the Brazilian Football Federation will be submitted to the 74th FIFA Congress for final decision.
