The sporty renaissance of Berkane, crowned Sunday in the Cup of the African Football Confederation (CAF), was the best team throughout the competition, said his coach Mouine Chaâbani, evoking “a coronation”.
“We have made a good journey. When we look at the statistics, our team was the best throughout this competition, with almost the best attack and the best defense. We lost only one match and remained unbeaten at home, “he said at a press conference after the return final contested in Zanzibar against the Tanzanian club Simba SC.
“Throughout the route, we were able to impose our personality, both in Berkane and on the opposing terrains,” he added.
Returning to the progress of the return final, the technician admitted that the staff was aware that “the match was not going to be easy”, stressing that the first half could have turned in favor of the RSB, with several frank occasions, thwarted only by the decisive interventions of the Simba
“At the break, I asked the players to show more calm and concentration, and to practice the football they master,” he said, noting that his team then “managed the second period”.
Chaâbani also said that the changes made during the match have been dictated by the warnings received by some players.
On all two confrontations, he estimated that the RSB had been “better than the opponent, especially in the first leg, with the many opportunities created”.
“I warmly congratulate my players for the sacrifices they endured in order to raise this cup,” concluded Chaâbani.
After a 2-0 victory in Berkane in the first leg, the oranges held Simba SC 1-1 in check during the return, thanks in particular to an equalizing goal of Soumaila Sidibe in additional time.
The RSB thus offers its third continental title after those gleaned in 2020 and 2022.
