Recently dismissed from the Wydad Casablanca coach, Rulani Mokwena revealed that he had to spend his own money to settle the situation of certain players and staff members due to the financial problems of the Moroccan club.
Rulani Mokwena exposed the financial difficulties in which he was faced during his short visit to the Wydad Athletic Club.
The South African coach left the Wydad in May, ten months after the start of a three-year contract, following a disagreement with certain members of the WAC board of directors, part of the supporters who are also not convinced by him. He insisted that he had been pushed towards the exit not for performance reasons according to him, but because of the internal policy of the club.
However, what has annoyed him the most is that his loyalty was questioned by the club vice-president, despite all his efforts to work in very difficult conditions according to him, going as far as spending eight months without salary and having to use his own money to help certain players and members of the technical staff.
“I had no problem with pressure, with psychological depression and all that. I was ready to resign because there were a lot of rumors, “said Mokwena on Maraw Sports Worldwide.
“” “Everything he wants is going to play the World Cup with Guardiola “” ”
“I remember that one day, I told the president: I cannot bear to invest as much, to work so hard to bring so many players, almost all for free,” he added, explaining that he had even had to pay some players and members of the technical staff of his own pocket, the club being short of liquidity upon arrival.
“I have had to pay some players, pay certain staff members, buy training equipment with my own money, invest in the club, and then, the vice-president asks me: ‘Do you really like this club?’ »»
“I would never have inflicted myself some of the things that happened, and that is why I told the president that there was perhaps a disalcranement somewhere and that it would be better than I left, because I heard: ‘Everything he wants, it is going to play the World Cup of clubs with Pep Guardiola and leave.’ »»
In another interview, Mokwena explained how he had to face the hard financial reality of the club, confirming at half-words to stay 8 months without salary.
“You were right about the salary problem, but it was a problem that at that time coincided with the presence of my agent in Morocco and the club was under discussion to solve the existing problems,” MOZOLA MOLEFE MOZOLA told MOKWENA.
Players also take it for their rank
“It was not necessarily a matter of money, when you love something – and I like to train. When I arrived, during my first meeting with the players, I asked how Raja (Casablanca) had succeeded in the double when I was told that they had known the same problems? »»
“They were ready to defend the club and the coat of arms, and that’s sometimes what I found absent (among Wydad players), but I had to be the one who shows that, even when the players were unhappy with payments, I was not focused on money but on the representation of the club. »»
The technician complained of several elements that have returned to Morocco difficult, in particular the supposed will of certain leaders to see a local coach at the head of the Wydad, as well as the cultural and linguistic barriers.
