Renaissance Berkane secured a positive result from Togo after drawing 1-1 with their hosts, ASC Kara, in a match played on Sunday evening at the Kegué Stadium in Lomé, as part of the preliminary round of the African Champions League.
The match started cautiously from both sides, with Berkane delivering a mediocre performance in the first half. They struggled to impose their style of play due to the difficult playing surface, resulting in a goalless first half. In the second half, the Togolese team surprised Berkane, scoring the opening goal with a header from a cross. However, the Moroccan team responded quickly. Coach Moïne Chaabani brought on striker Osama Mellouli, who equalized in the 76th minute with a crucial goal, restoring balance for the Berkane side. This result puts the Moroccan representative in a strong position to qualify, needing only a win of any scoreline in the second leg at the Municipal Stadium in Berkane to secure their place in the next round of the continental competition.
