Algerian Islamist leader and dissident Ali Belhadj criticized Algeria's participation in the "two-state solution" conference sponsored by France and Saudi Arabia, considering that "the decisions that came out of it, especially those related to disarming the resistance and pursuing Hamas, constitute a blatant interference in Palestinian affairs and a blatant bias towards the occupation, in addition to being a practical consecration of handing over most of the Palestinian territories to Israel".
In statements to the "Arabi21" website, Belhadj considered that Algeria's participation in the conference and the approval of its Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf of these proposals represent "a dangerous turning point and a reversal of Algerian constants regarding the Palestinian cause and liberation movements." He recalled the position of the Algerian negotiators in the Evian talks in 1961, who refused any concession of the Algerian Sahara in favor of France, saying: "Algeria's acceptance today of the Palestinians giving up their rights is a departure from its struggle record." The Algerian leader revealed that he had intended to organize a protest in front of the presidency to convey his position rejecting Algeria's participation in the conference, but the Algerian security authorities, who have imposed house arrest on him for years, prevented that.
