This Sunday morning, Guizhou province in southwestern China witnessed the opening of the world's longest bridge to traffic, after three years of continuous construction, which contributed to reducing the crossing time over a deep valley from two hours to just two minutes.
According to the Chinese news agency "Xinhua", the Huajiang Grand Valley Bridge rises 625 meters above the Beipan River, which is equivalent to nine times the height of the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. Its main span is 1,420 meters long, making it the longest suspension bridge with steel truss bridges in mountainous areas worldwide. The bridge extends over a total distance of 2,890 meters over the Huajiang Valley, known as the "Earth Crack," to form a qualitative addition to the rapidly developing infrastructure network in the second largest global economy. Guizhou is known for being home to more than 30,000 bridges built amid its mountainous terrain, including three of the longest bridges in the world, while the province includes nearly half of the 100 longest bridges around the world.
