Morocco has taken an advanced position on the list of major producers of cobalt metal in the African continent during the year 2025.
The "African Exponent" website revealed that Morocco is among the top 10 in cobalt production in Africa, with an expected production quantity of around 4,500 tons during the year 2025.
The website said that the Democratic Republic of Congo tops the list with an expected production ranging between 170,000 and 190,000 tons, which represents between 70 and 80 percent of the global cobalt production.
The source added that Rwanda comes in second place with 9,000 tons, followed by Zimbabwe with 8,000 tons, Madagascar with 7,000 tons, Tanzania with 5,500 tons, and then Morocco in sixth place with 4,500 tons.
The same website continued that Uganda occupied the seventh position with 4,000 tons, followed by South Africa with 3,000 tons, then Zambia with 2,500 tons, and Botswana with 1,000 tons.
The same source pointed out that cobalt has become, with the global shift towards green energies, of increasing importance to electric car manufacturers.
The website considered that this metal is an essential element in lithium-ion batteries that power electric cars and store renewable energy, making it a cornerstone in modern technology and climate policies.
The website went on to say that with increasing demand, driven by countries' commitments to achieve carbon neutrality and the rapid expansion in the use of electric cars globally, the issue of securing and diversifying cobalt supply chains has become one of the most prominent concerns for governments and industries around the world.
