The National General Secretariat of Freelancers within the Democratic Transport Union expressed strong condemnation and deep disapproval of the negative response received by the union's General Secretariat from the Ministry of Transport and Logistics, regarding the request for granting exceptional licenses to professional drivers who have been transporting via applications for more than three years.
In a statement, the General Secretariat clarified that the ministry's response came in the form of a complete rejection, considering this decision a "clear injustice" against thousands of drivers who have worked diligently and responsibly within this sector for years, without official recognition or legal protection to ensure them the minimum level of professional and social stability. The union confirmed that this rejection reflects the absence of political will on the part of the supervising ministry to organize and regulate transportation via applications, despite the fact that this field employs a large number of young Moroccans and is one of the most prominent professional alternatives available in light of the deteriorating situation of the labor market. In conclusion of the statement, the union stressed that it will continue to defend the drivers' demands by all legitimate means, announcing its readiness to take escalation steps if the ministry continues to ignore this sensitive file and not respond to the just demands of a group considered among the most vulnerable groups within the urban transport system.
